Posted on February 8, 2016
It’s been over a month since New Year’s Eve and the champagne has worn off, I’m sure your determination for your New Year’s Resolution has faded as well. But it’s not too late! You can still stick your resolution and show that 2016 is your year! Here are some tips for keep that New Year’s Resolution.
1. Be Realistic
The biggest reason most people break their resolution is because they set unrealistic goals for themselves. When you can’t stick to your lofty goals you get frustrated and give up entirely. So if you said that you were going to hit the gym every day and only eat vegetable juice, then it might be more realistic to say you will go to the gym three days a week and simply eat a balanced diet.
2. Plan Ahead
Creating a schedule and sticking to it is the most effective way to meet your 2016 resolution goals. Set up a schedule for yourself and treat it like it’s your job. Studies show that it takes 21 days to create a habit, it might seem like a chore to stick to a calendar but before long your resolution activities will become a part of your daily routine.
3. Tell the World
Don’t keep your resolution a secret! The best way to stay accountable for your goal is to tell your friends about what you want to accomplish. If you tell your buddies that you are quitting smoking and they see you with Camel between your fingers they will be more than inclined to call you out on it!
4. Track Your Progress
It can be hard to remember why you started pursuing your resolution in the first place, that’s why we recommend finding a way to track your progress. If your goal is to lose weight then start a journal chronicling your weekly weight loss and measurements. If you want to quit smoking try marking a red x on your calendar for every day that you don’t indulge in a cigarette. It will be validating to just see your progress as the weeks go by!
5. Reward Yourself and Show Off!
Set monthly goals for yourself and rewards for when you meet them! If you planned on losing 10 pounds by March, treat yourself to a new pair of sunglasses when you’ve lost it! Additionally, share your success on social media, your friends and family are bound to show their support of bettering yourself!
